Some information about this area and its facilities.
The area has much to offer, both in facilities for day to day life and for the more recreational pursuits. Carcassonne airport is 40 minutes and Toulouse airport is 90 minutes - both airports serve Stansted and other UK airports. TGV services run from both Toulouse and Narbonne with Perpignan being added soon. Links to these are available from Carcassonne station.
Over 40 restaurants are within a 15 minute radius and more than 30 clubs & associations are within 15 -20 minutes. Schools, Restaurants & bars, supermarkets, butchers, bakers, vegetable store, hairdressers, and a medical centre are all only 10 minute walk away. Also nearby are several excellent organic supermarkets.
Sit and watch the world go by while enjoying a coffee at the local Sunday morning market in Esperaza - only 5 minutes away! Markets are also available at Limoux (Friday morning), at Quillan (Saturday morning), at Couiza (Tuesday morning) and at Carcassonne (Saturday morning and finally Mirepoix (Monday morning).
Limoux, at only 20 minutes drive, is a historic town with excellent shopping and a large new supermarket. Most of what you might need can be found there. At 40 minutes is Carcassonne, a large town with excellent facilities and the added benefit of the stunning Carcassonne cité, one of France’s major tourist destinations.
Both Limoux and Quillan (10 minutes) have small local hospitals and the two major hospitals of the region are both in Carcassonne.
For those of you who like skiing there are a number of excellent ski resorts in the Pyrenees within about an hour’s drive. If the beach is more your thing the coast with a plethora of glorious sandy locations to choose from is only 90 minutes away. A trip into Spain is easy too as the border is only a 90 minute drive.
The Canal du Midi runs through the region offering superb walks and cycling along the towpaths and the option to take a boat ride for longer distances.
